KINGDOM HEARTS Melody of Memory: A Disappointing Experience

As a fan of the Kingdom Hearts series, I was excited to dive into Melody of Memory, a new rhythm game that promised to bring together iconic songs and memorable moments from across the franchise. Unfortunately, my excitement quickly turned to disappointment as I navigated through the game's convoluted storyline.

One of my biggest gripes with Melody of Memory is its handling of Kairi, a character who seems to have been relegated to the background despite her potential for growth and development. In the final fight against Xehanort, Kairi phases out, leaving Sora to face the villain alone. This lack of involvement in the story feels particularly egregious given that she had played a significant role in the previous game.

In my opinion, Melody of Memory would have been better served as an add-on to Kingdom Hearts III rather than a standalone release. The game's short length and lack of meaningful story development make it feel more like an expansion pack than a full-fledged game.

The way Kairi interacts with her memories in the game also raises some questions. Why is she narrating her own thoughts if she's supposed to be reliving her memories to figure out how to rescue Sora? And what's with the explanation that she was stuck in a chair for a year playing rhythm games in her head? It doesn't add up, especially given that she never actually experienced those worlds.

In conclusion, while Melody of Memory may have some redeeming qualities as a rhythm game, it falls short as a Kingdom Hearts experience. The lack of meaningful story development and poor handling of Kairi's character make it feel like a missed opportunity for the franchise. If you're looking for a deeper connection to the series, I would recommend sticking with Kingdom Hearts III or exploring other games in the franchise.
